Beaches for Dogs in Tenerife 2019

  • El Puertito Beach (Güimar)

El Puertito in Güimar was the first dog beach on the island of Tenerife. It is characterized by its dark sand, due to its volcanic origin. It has a breakwater jetty so the waters are calm.

As it is an urban beach, it has services such as toilets, showers, litter bins, cleaning service or beach bar and it is usually crowded by families who enjoy it in a pleasant atmosphere. It is important to know that you have access for people with reduced mobility.

  • Las Gaviotas Beach (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)

The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife already has a canine beach nearby. It is the Playa de las Gaviotas, in San Andrés, a small beach (traditionally nudist) formed by black sand and low occupation ideal for nature lovers and tranquility.

The best time to enjoy this beach for dogs is at low tide, so we recommend that before visiting you take a look at the tide calendar.

This new canine beach is located next to the famous Playa de las Teresitas (where it was originally to be located).

  • The Callao / Las Bajas (Arona)

The beach for dogs of El Callao or Las Bajas is located just outside the well-known tourist area of Los Cristianos. It is a semi-urban area that has a beach bar.

You should bear in mind that although El Callao beach is less crowded than other tourist areas in the area, in high season there may be more bathers than the rest of the year. There you can enjoy your dog while playing and run between the water and the sand with total freedom.

  • The Confital / Playa del Horno (Granadilla de Abona)

Within the municipality of Granadilla de Abona we find El Confital beach, also known as El Horno. It is a hidden and quiet beach, with dark sand, where you can enjoy with your dog while having fun and splashing between the water and the sand, or play with other furry friends. It is also one of the favorite areas for surfers.

  • Beach of Los Guirres / El Volcán / Playa Nueva, Tazacorte.

On the island of La Palma, next to the town of Tazacorte, is the beach of Los Guirres, also known as El Volcán or Playa Nueva. It is a beautiful beach which is accessed by a wooden path and has stunning views of the surrounding cliffs. There you can enjoy with your dog a pleasant day at the beach or enjoy practicing water sports such as diving or snorkeling. The place has a chiringuito and parking nearby.

  • Beach of the Coloradas / El Afre (Yaiza)
  • Beach of the Guacimeta, in Playa Honda (San Bartolomé). It is a beautiful sandy beach ideal to enjoy with your pet a day at the beach at any time of year.

Every year, new beaches and coves are added to the list of those that admit the access of dogs throughout Spain. In many cases, they are small coves or smaller beaches in coastal locations that already have large beaches for the majority of the swimmer public.

In addition, each one has certain access rules, which must be consulted on the web pages of town halls.

Almost all the autonomous communities and coastal provinces have beaches enabled for the entry of maskers, except the Basque Country.

Catalonia and the Valencian Community are still the provinces with the highest number of licensed dog beaches, so that the Mediterranean coast is one of the best options to travel with your dog this summer.
