Although it has yet to open, the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort is already the best new hotel in 2018, according to the European Hospitality Awards (EHA). These awards, which are organised by the British magazine Hotel Management International, reward the excellence of the best international hotels. In this case, the envelope for the best new hotel in 2018—Opening of the Year, which recognises the most interesting, newly-built hotel in terms of architectural innovations, facilities and interior design—held the name of the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort.
Why is the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort Tenerife the best new 5 star hotel in 2018?
The million-dollar question is: What does this 5 star hotel have that makes it deserve this important award?
Firstly, if we focus on the design by the renowned architect Leonardo Omar of the Canary Islands, it will undoubtedly remind us of a ship. The two buildings, which are joined by a gangway and completely surrounded by the ocean, further boost this effect. Another element that helps meld the hotel with its surroundings is the seafloor-inspired interior, with the fractal shapes of the coral reefs located around the island as the main protagonists.
The moment you set foot in one of the reception areas, you will feel as if you have entered an underwater world, immersed in a sea cave. Even the smallest details have been included: the walls are made of natural rock and the space is surrounded by small, indoor lagoons. Everything is so realistic that you will be taken aback when you are greeted by a human without a wetsuit.
It is no coincidence that the hotel is divided into two buildings. One is an adults-only hotel featuring 121 Junior Suites with 55 m2 of floor space and impressive 20 m2 terraces that boast ocean views. In addition, 21 of these rooms are also equipped with a hot tub. The other building, which is tailored to families and groups of friends, has 114 Deluxe Suites, Villa Suites and exclusive Penthouses with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms, a living room, open-plan kitchen and large terraces with ocean views, as well as a private pool in 54 of the suites. In the area around the two buildings, guests can enjoy the more than 10,000 m2 of spacious gardens and heated saltwater pools.
Facing the Atlantic, and with 90% of its accommodation enjoying a view of the Ocean, the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort is located in the south of Tenerife, close to la Caleta on the Costa de Adeje, one of the few remaining fishing villages that still preserves its traditional character and way of life with its anchored fishing boats and seafront promenade lined with long-established restaurants.
Moreover, the resort occupies not just one building but two, which though different, complement one another and are joined by a walkway. Designed for couples, family groups and friends, the Royal Hideaway Corales Suites comprise suites, villas and exclusive penthouses, each with a fully fitted and equipped lounge and kitchen, to make you feel totally at home. Guests can choose between accommodation with 1, 2 or 3 separate bedrooms, all of which have stunning terraces overlooking the bay, and over 50 of which have a private swimming pool.
