Tenerife completes the details of its presence in the World Travel Market of London (WTM), the most important tourism fair in the world, which is visited by the island with the aim of strengthening its leading position in the British market and promoting the climate, nature, gastronomy and wines.
In this context, the Cabildo, through Turismo de Tenerife, will present its novelties to tour operators and specialized press at an event to be held at the Docklands Museum, the corporation informs in a note.
The president of the island corporation, Carlos Alonso, explains that the presence in the WTM coincides this year with the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Tourism of Tenerife, so it is wanted to transfer the vision of the future for the island, “encompassed in the Tourism Strategy of Tenerife 2017-2020, with horizon in 2030, which was presented last June “.
Alonso also points out that this strategy seeks to “reinforce Tenerife as a quality destination, competitive and better prepared to meet the needs of the tourism market, at the same time as creative, innovative and entrepreneurial, a more sustainable destination that contributes to increase quality of life of the people of Tenerife “.
The island president will head the island delegation at the fair, which will also be composed of the Councilor for Tourism of the Cabildo, Alberto Bernabé; the Minister of Agriculture, Jesús Morales; the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Vicente Dorta; the president of Ashotel, Jorge Marichal, as well as representatives of town councils of the island and companies associated with Turismo de Tenerife.
Bernabé points out that the British is the “main” issuing market for travelers on the island, and the figures that have been recorded during these months “allow a glimpse of a year close to two million Britons, despite the difficulties had this market because of the uncertainty of the Brexit and the devaluations of the pound. ”
The councilor highlights the opening up to 2020, of 15 new accommodation establishments, “which will mean almost 9,000 more beds, to which will be added another 21,000 from the renovation of accommodation, most to enter the category of five stars and five stars higher, a reflection of the great growth in demand “.
Both the president and the counselor touch on other arguments that will reinforce the presence of the island at the fair, such as the shared management of the destination, the renovation of public and private spaces or the fact that Tenerife is the only Canarian island with restaurants that possess the prestigious Michelin stars in recognition of the quality of their cuisine.
