Once a black sand beach, Playa Del Duque was spruced up in the Nineties when white sand was pumped from the sea bed and deposited on top.
The process went on day and night for three months and, although some of the sand has since been washed away, the beach is still deep and wide and very pretty.
It’s protected by a breakwater so the sea is calm. A great favourite, especially with families.
You’ll find some of the island’s best five-star hotels lead on to the beach so the area tends to be a bit more expensive with more upmarket restaurants and shops – but the nightlife is more peaceful.
